And Then –

When I dim the lights of day

all the chores and appointments

…when I sweep aside the litter of the day’s sorrow

empty the bins of recycled thought

and pause the stale nurture of old times

and I find a place to sit under a tree

… or by the water

and find a space within the generosity of air

to ponder cleanliness and calmness

… Then

I hear the call of Spirit

tapping my ears

and voices in the airy branches

asking me to sit a while and listen

as they cradle my head and heart

with softly joyous inspirations

… while holding me safely in their vision.

I neither stay nor go

but rest, surrender, and accept

overflowing joy

rhythms of drum

chants to grace and

… the lightness of freedom.

Within this body made rigid with ache

there is a love soaked in awe and sky.
